Adventures in Cross-Repository Searching: A Consortial Effort

Presented by Jay Datema & Tom Moritz
BISC Consortia – Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory Library/American Museum of Natural History

As the Biosciences Information Synthesis Collaborative (BISC) considered possible collaborations, the notion of making individual bioscience repositories available through an integrated interface became appealing. The goal is to allow bioscience researchers to find unique materials at like-minded institutions, and give a new model for consortial collaboration beyond consolidated buying power. Thus, we began to harvest repositories from BISC member institutions to  make repositories cross-searchable by harvesting and loading them into a web service. We are exploring the aDORE framework or a consolidated repository hosted with Open Repository.
